Pre-Release 8 Changelog and More...

Hey everyone!

Current Status

Since Pre-Release 8 is a major update, we felt it smart to do a big ol’ post open to the public about what we’ve done. But before we get to that, we’ve put together a Gantt chart & Timeline for Shattered so everyone knows our projected dates. We would like to remind everyone that these are not hard deadlines, but instead what we felt we could accomplish as of writing this update. Please click on the image for full resolution. Long story short, we anticipate the books being in your hands around New Years 2018, preferably before. As the image above shows, we will most likely put out one final Pre-Release, Pre-Release 9, next month that will conclude our Primary Editing pass. After that, we will go through the book one more time ensuring the book reads well, all the page numbers are correct, and that we’re happy with the product. Once that happens, we will put out Shattered V1 to the backers and then send it to our printer. From there, it gets handed off to a customs agent who ships it to the US. Once in country, unsigned books get sent to Amazon and signed books get sent to us. This is so we can affix the correct UPC code before the signed books get shipped to Amazon. After that, it’s all up to the shipping services. 

Address Changes

Please note that you have until we ship the books to Amazon to update your shipping address. You can do that by messaging us here on Kickstarter, on our Forums, or on Discord. If you are planning a move during our projected arrival date, we will gladly work with you as we get closer to the Holiday Season to insure you receive the book.  

Pre-Release 8 Changelog

Pre-Release 8 was a massive undertaking. We heavily edited some sections that we haven’t touched in quite a while. Other sections only needed a light spritzing of cleaning for a good spit shine. But without further ado, what we’ve been up to:

• Changing the book’s inner margin to 0.75” (19.05mm) for readability (Thanks Pyxis!)
• Vampire Covens were moved in with Character Creation
• Health has been revamped, the 2d10 “random” health has been removed and replaced with a health calculation based on a character’s rank in stats.
• Also, Endurance has been slightly reworked to accommodate this health change.
• The Equipment, Goods, & Services and Crafting chapters have been merged into a single chapter called Equipment and Crafting All crafting (Alchemy, Weapons, Armor & Shields, and Traps) have had their systems better unified
• Airships have been edited, some numbers have been tweaked
• Game Master’s Guide has been edited
• Creature Creation was moved until after Game Master’s Guide
• Sample Characters have been modified to help players understand character creation better
• Character Sheets have been updated with fields for character descriptors (height, weight, etc), skill ratings, stride, and carry capacity.
• The Avatars & Worship section in chapter one has been combined with Conviction to better give background information on the elements during talent purchasing.
• Conviction has received a slight buff, gaining a few additional Conviction Points for characters
• Later level Miracles in Conviction have had their costs adjusted as well as Healing Touch
• Some Talent groups have been moved around and some Talents may be renamed, added, or removed. Also, some costs have been adjusted.
• The Lexicon has been edited, but more items will be added as we proceed towards

But Where's Pre-Release 8?

Hey folks!

What, no Pre-Release 8? What are yall up to?

To start off, we had originally planned for Pre-Release 8 to be released today involving fixes from the rest of Talents as well as Equipment, Goods, and Services and Crafting. However, after some internal debate and a few comments from backers on our Discord chat, not only have we decided to combine both Equipment, Goods, and Services and Crafting, but retool weapon crafting slightly to make a bit more logical sense.

In addition, we have moved Vampire Covens in with the Character Creation Races subsection, moved a bit of lore in with Conviction to help better define the Elements and Conviction itself in the Conviction system document, we’ve updated abilities to be less redundant in Martial Arts, retooled the Character Sheet to include a few aesthetic details about your character and added in Stride to the sheet, we’ve retooled the Example Characters to no longer have static sheets and instead have their text blurb next to all their relevant abilities and stats, and last but certainly not least, we’ve moved all Talents in front of Combat so that XP purchasable sections are grouped together.

We have roughly 90 edits that we’d like to get mostly resolved before putting out Pre-Release 8. The majority of these edits occur within the newly created Equipment & Crafting chapter and we’d like to get that squared away before the next Pre-Release. In addition, we are adding a few more relevant boxes to our Creature List and Creature Creation to better fit with the theme of the game.

That's right, we've opened up a Teespring shop with a few designs from the Shattered universe! More designs will be available as time permits. Right now, we have a Tshirt and a Hoodie with the Hangel on the front.

It’s​ ​been​ ​awhile​ ​since​ ​we​ ​posted​ ​a​ ​substantial​ ​update​ ​to​ ​all​ ​platforms​ ​for​ ​the​ ​public​ ​to​ ​see​ ​and we​ ​felt​ ​it​ ​was​ ​long​ ​overdue​ ​for​ ​a​ ​“where​ ​you​ ​at?”​ ​status​ ​update.  

For​ ​those​ ​of​ ​you​ ​not​ ​on​ ​our​ ​Forums​​ ​or​ ​Discord​ ​​(and​ ​you should​ ​be!​ ​We​ ​don’t​ ​bite),​ ​we​ ​are​ ​in​ ​the​ ​final​ ​stages​ ​of​ ​editing.​ ​We’re​ ​using​ ​a​ ​fine​ ​toothed​ ​comb and​ ​Grammarly​ ​to​ ​pick​ ​apart​ ​every​ ​sentence​ ​in​ ​the​ ​book.​ ​We’ve​ ​also​ ​been​ ​releasing “Pre-Release”​ ​copies​ ​of​ ​the​ ​book​ ​to​ ​those​ ​on​ ​the​ ​forums,​ ​Kickstarter,​ ​and​ ​Discord​ ​who​ ​have backed​ ​via​ ​Kickstarter​ ​and​ ​Backerkit​ ​every​ ​3​ ​to​ ​5​ ​weeks.​ ​That​ ​being​ ​said,​ ​those​ ​of​ ​you​ ​who remember​ ​when​ ​we​ ​did​ ​the​ ​Kickstarter​ ​over​ ​two​ ​years​ ​ago,​ ​remember​ ​the​ ​“June​ ​2016”​ ​publish date.​ ​We​ ​thank​ ​you​ ​profusely​ ​for​ ​your​ ​understanding​ ​on​ ​being​ ​a​ ​year​ ​late​ ​at​ ​this​ ​point​ ​and​ ​we hope​ ​the​ ​more​ ​frequently​ ​released​ ​Pre-Release​ ​copies​ ​have​ ​helped​ ​allay​ ​your​ ​unhappiness​ ​and prove​ ​to​ ​you​ ​that​ ​we’re​ ​not​ ​Vaporware.​ ​We​ ​still​ ​plan​ ​on​ ​going​ ​to​ ​print​ ​soon​ ​and​ ​are​ ​still​ ​in​ ​talks with​ ​our​ ​customs​ ​agents​ ​on​ ​how​ ​to​ ​best​ ​get​ ​the​ ​books​ ​from​ ​our​ ​printer​ ​in​ ​China​ ​to​ ​a​ ​port​ ​in​ ​the US.  

As​ ​for​ ​the​ ​book​ ​itself,​ ​it’s​ ​hovering​ ​between​ ​290​ ​and​ ​300​ ​pages​ ​and​ ​will​ ​be​ ​printed,​ ​case​ ​bound, in​ ​full-color​ ​on​ ​US​ ​standard​ ​letter​ ​paper​ ​(that’s​ ​8.5”​ ​x​ ​11”​ ​or​ ​215.9mm​ ​x​ ​279.4mm).  

We​ ​have​ ​a​ ​lot​ ​to​ ​consider​ ​after​ ​the​ ​book​ ​is​ ​sent​ ​to​ ​print.​ ​First​ ​and​ ​foremost,​ ​we​ ​intend​ ​to​ ​ramp up​ ​our​ ​marketing​ ​for​ ​the​ ​game​ ​(Live​ ​streams,​ ​Pre-recorded​ ​videos,​ ​etc.),​ ​while​ ​attending​ ​what conventions​ ​we​ ​can.​ ​Aside​ ​from​ ​that,​ ​we’re​ ​planning​ ​to​ ​assemble​ ​and​ ​release​ ​several​ ​of​ ​the campaigns​ ​that​ ​we​ ​have​ ​created​ ​over​ ​the​ ​years​ ​as​ ​free​ ​PDFs,​ ​but​ ​will​ ​probably​ ​explore print-on-demand​ ​options​ ​as​ ​well​ ​for​ ​those​ ​of​ ​you​ ​that​ ​love​ ​paper.​ ​There​ ​have​ ​been​ ​discussions of​ ​future​ ​expansions​ ​and​ ​other​ ​ventures,​ ​but​ ​,​ ​above​ ​all​ ​else,​ ​our​ ​primary​ ​goal​ ​is​ ​to​ ​support Shattered​ ​and​ ​foster​ ​the​ ​amazing​ ​community​ ​that​ ​has​ ​grown​ ​around​ ​it.

Hey folks!

Pre-Release 5

Pre-Release 5 is here (albeit a little late)! In this version we've resolved all the pending backer suggested edits submitted as of last night, improved Introduction to Game Mastery, and added in the Lexicon. We know we promised this release last week, but the Introduction to Game Mastery and the Lexicon took a bit extra time to polish up. As before, you can find the character sheets at the end of the book or in Update 66.

As always, please report the questions or errors you find to the google form or on our forums. You can also track our progress of these edits here.

We added in additional pages on how to run a game, a list of player types to look out for in your games, and general tips to keep in mind while wearing the GM mantle.

Lexicon

This is a compendium of important words in the Shattered Universe and system elements accompanied by a short description.

April Update & Conventions

Hey folks!

We're moving along with editing and adding to Game Mastery. While we still have no concrete date, we can assure you that the team is doing its best to get a finished product to you as timely as we can. We know it's been a while since the last pre-release, but expect version 5 within the next week!

Conventions

Now that we drawing near to the release of Shattered, we are looking into attending a number of cons in the coming months, and we would like to know which ones you attend so we can do what we can to meet as many of you as possible. So we encourage everyone to take a minute to fill out this two-question survey that asks which region you live in and the most popular cons near you.
